During his stay in the Croatian capital, Deco reportedly held an informal meeting with Rafael Belinho, a highly-rated Brazilian youngster. The discussion took place at the Westin Zagreb Hotel and was also attended by the player’s father. The meeting is understood to have been an introductory one, allowing the club to establish a direct connection with the promising player ahead of a potential future move.
The trip also served as an opportunity for Barcelona to reaffirm their long-standing interest in midfielder Cardoso Varela. The Catalan club have been tracking the youngster for some time and reportedly failed in an attempt to sign him last summer. Although Varela recently signed a new contract with Zagreb until 2028, Barcelona remain keen and are believed to be planning another approach next summer.
